Event Rules

Welcome to EOY 2010! As this is the Event of the year, we know that everyone wants to make the most out of it! We want to provide an enjoyable and safe environment for all of you, but we need your help to achieve this!

General Prohibitions

The following are not allowed at The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC) and its surrounding areas, including the parking lots and structures:

  • Failing to be appropriately clothed at all times (Yes, some costumes are a little scant and that is understandable, but failing to provide adequate cover for parts that should be covered up is a different matter all together)
  • Wearing apparel or behaving in a way that provokes disturbance.
  • Causing physical and verbal disturbance to anyone, including but not limited to stalking, use of physical force and insults
  • Boisterous, lewd or offensive conduct and language
  • Gathering to commit unlawful acts or in a way that disturbs public peace
  • Possession of any item that can be used as a weapon, including but not limited to: firearms, explosives, clubs, knives, whips or any other object(s) that may hurt others.
  • Smoking, other than in designated areas.
  • Activity not sponsored by EOY 2010 and/or an enterprise(s) engaged in business at TRCC, without complying with the EOY 2010's rules for such activity. This includes, without limitation, the solicitation of money or other contributions or donations, or distribution of commercial advertising or promotional material of any kind, or offering samples of items which are available for sale or in exchange for a donation or contribution.
Golden Rule #1: Keep in mind local laws, rules and regulations. This applies to costume selection and character portrayals too!

General Etiquette for all Con Attendees

Don't get physical. Cons are well-populated places and some amount of crowding is expected. Don't push, shove or shout. Wait patiently for space to move or ask politely for your right of way. If a cosplayer's outfit or prop is blocking your way, politely inform them instead of forcing your way through and damaging their things in the process.

Food and drinks are to be restricted to areas selling refreshments or designated for the consumption of refreshments only.

Respect your fellow con attendees' and cosplayers' personal space. Don't touch them inappropriately or handle their possessions without permission.

Don't leave your personal belongings unattended around the event grounds. It makes the event grounds look messy and you risk losing your things. If you have many things that cannot be carried on yourself at all times, please use the designated areas to keep your personal belongings.

Do not litter.

Golden Rule #2: Basic Social Etiquette applies to everyone.

Cosplayer Etiquette

Handle all props and costumes appropriately so they do not obstruct other people or pose hazards to others.

If you signed up for a competition, please be on time for it.

Respect your fellow cosplayers and con attendees. Don't carry out offensive or dangerous actions against others just because your character does so. Being in costume does not excuse anyone from basic social etiquette.

If you do not wish to be photographed, reject the photographer politely. If you are being harrassed, don't hesitate to approach any of the security staff or ushers for help.

Photographer & Videographer Etiquette

Photographs and video footage by attendees are generally allowed in all common areas of the event. Specific rules and restrictions regarding video, audio, and photography apply to certain specific areas.

All photographers should obtain permission before photographing or videotaping individuals or costumes. If someone does not wish to be photographed, please respect their wishes.

Respect the personal space of cosplayers. Don't photograph them on the sly when they are freshening up, eating or resting. Such candids are infringement of personal space and are strongly discouraged.

Don't request cosplayers to make lewd poses or touch them inappropriately when posing with them. This falls under lewd behaviour and will get you in trouble with the law.

Photography or videography of EOY 2010 event, staff, or attendees for the purpose of sale is expressly forbidden. Individuals may take pictures and videos for private viewing. All images, sound bites and clips of EOY 2010 must be identified as being from EOY 2010.

The above rules apply to all attendees (exhibitors / booth owners, guests, press, or any level of regular participants). We encourage attendees to become familiar with those rules.

Additional Information

Video footage of the convention and attendees is gathered by staff members, including public areas, events, and panels, and may be used in a highlights tape, for marketing endeavors, other media use or used to identify trouble-making activity when necessary.

During the event please check your Event Map or program guide for location information.

If you need immediate assistance, please don’t hesitate to approach any usher or security in the Event.

EOY 2010 reserves the right to modify and/or update this Rules at any time.
