It truly gave me great joy and honor to represent Singapore and visit a country where anime, the root of our passion comes from. Also, we got to meet cosplayers from more than 6 different countries and share our love for cosplay.

[The email interview]

Qn: How did you first know about Cosplay?

Ans: A friend whom I knew through my comic drawing days at Singapore Press Holdings introduced me to her friends at a cosplay gathering. It was through this group of friends that I got to know more about cosplay and anime. I liked playing video games at that time and the first character I cosplayed was Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy 8.

Qn: What made you want to Cosplay?

One reason is I find that cosplaying is really fun as we can dress up as our favourite characters. I especially loved working on props and costumes ^^. I was also very much in love with Japanese anime, manga and video games, and if there are any characters that I adore, I will aim to cosplay him or her~! Cosplay is one more outlet which I can express my love for the character~!

Qn:
How long have you cosplayed for?

Ans: 2010 will be my 10th year.

Qn: Share with us your favorite Cosplay moments.

Ans: When my partner and I represented Singapore to participate in World Cosplay Summit 2007! We got to visit Japan as part of the experience! It truly gave me great joy and honour to represent Singapore and visit a country where anime, the root of our passion comes from. Also, we got to meet cosplayers from more than 6 different countries and share our love for cosplay.

Qn: Who are your favorite Characters to cosplay?

Ans: Link from The Legend of Zelda, Shinguchi Sakura from Sakura Taisen, Sailormoon from Sailormoon series, Chun Li from Street Fighter, CC from Code Geass and Sheryl Nome from Macross Frontier. Actually there are too many to name…

Qn:
What are your future Cosplay plans?

Ans: I have a few future cosplay projects with some good partners and groups. I'm looking forward to successful photoshoots as well ^_^.

Qn: Will you be attending EOY 2010 this year?

Ans: Yes I will be there ^o^ ~

Qn: Your vision/dream for Cosplaying five years down the road?

Ans: I hope there will be more cosplayers who will cosplay characters from retro anime and game series, and not always characters from the latest popular series. We all do miss old anime characters.

[Cosplay Tips]

Qn: Share with us 3 tips / things to note for fellow Cosplayers attending Cosplay Events.

Ans:

1. Always be sure to pack your costumes + props a day before the event! Double check that you are not missing out anything. Create a checklist if you have to.

2. Always be careful with the way you keep your belongings! It is always very crowded during events and you can’t afford to lose your stuff.

3. For ladies, when you notice a photographer taking photos of you in an indecent way, be brave and stop his actions right away.

Qn: Any Props / Costume making tips you'd like to share?

Ans:

- Start planning the construction process way ahead of time. Do give yourself some room for errors. You don’t want to be rushing just one night before the actual event.

- Visualise how you want your props/costume to look like and work backwards. This way, you’ll know what materials or fabric you would want to purchase.
